About Ege

Ege University was founded in 1955 and is based in the Bornova district of Izmir, with further campuses and vocational schools across the Izmir region, including Cesme, Odemis, Bergama, Aliaga, Urla and Karsiyaka. Its own figures list 31,338 undergraduate (lisans) students, 11,641 associate-degree students, 4,607 master's students and 1,930 doctoral students, and 2,943 academic staff. The page carrying these figures is undated, so treat them as approximate.

The university lists about 20 faculties on its numbers page, among them Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Engineering, Science, Agriculture, Fisheries, Communication, Nursing and a Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, plus a State Conservatory of Turkish Music and a School of Fashion and Design. Ege also runs the Ege Technopark, a technology transfer office and an Erasmus+ programme, and it has an International Computer Institute.

Foreign students who want a bachelor's degree apply through a dedicated online system with a TR-YOS exam result, then choose programmes from a quota list. Most programmes are taught in Turkish and require Turkish at C1 level, but a smaller set is taught in English, German or in mixed-language formats. Ege suits students who want a large, comprehensive Turkish state university in a coastal city and who can prepare for the entrance exam and a possible year of language preparation.
