About EdUHK
The Education University of Hong Kong was formed in 1994 as The Hong Kong Institute of Education, by merging Hong Kong's colleges of education (Northcote, Grantham and Sir Robert Black) with the Hong Kong Technical Teachers' College and the Institute of Language in Education. It moved to its hillside campus in Tai Po in 1997 and took the university title in 2016. It is one of the eight universities funded by Hong Kong's University Grants Committee, and the only one historically dedicated to teacher education.
Education is still its core: EdUHK reports ranking 7th in the world and 2nd in Asia for Education in the 2026 QS subject rankings, and many programmes are five-year double degrees that pair a subject bachelor's with a Bachelor of Education. It now also runs what it calls an "Education-plus" range of non-teaching degrees, such as Artificial Intelligence and Educational Technology, Personal Finance, Speech Pathology and Rehabilitation, Creative and Digital Arts, and Psychology.
Teaching is organised in three faculties: Education and Human Development, Humanities, and Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. The university is small by Hong Kong standards (10,386 students in its government-funded programmes in 2025, 6,208 of them undergraduates), and it suits students who want to teach, or who want a practical, people-focused degree with plenty of exchange options.
Why students choose EdUHK
Education is its strongest subject: EdUHK reports being 7th in the world and 2nd in Asia for Education in the 2026 QS subject rankings.
Five-year double degrees combine a subject degree with a Bachelor of Education, for example English Studies and Digital Communication plus a BEd in English Language.
About 60% of undergraduates have at least one non-local experience, drawing on 250+ partner institutions in 40+ countries and regions and a Global Learning Enhancement Fund of up to HK$10,000.
Non-local entrants are considered automatically for entrance scholarships of up to HK$270,000 a year, renewable, with no separate application.
