Sign up to see your chancesDalian Medical University is a public, degree-granting university in Dalian, Liaoning Province, with roots dating to Guandong Medical College in 1947. Medicine is its central focus, but its 2026 undergraduate portfolio also covers health sciences, biology, engineering, psychology, law, and visual arts. The university awards bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees and connects medical education with an extensive affiliated-hospital network. Its main campus is in the coastal Lvshunkou District, about 25 kilometres from the former central Dalian campus. Prospective students should distinguish carefully between domestic admissions, which operate through China’s provincial examination and placement systems, and separate international application routes. The strongest fit is for students seeking a medically oriented institution with access to clinical, laboratory, and health-science disciplines, while applicants should verify program language, professional-recognition requirements, and campus-specific clinical arrangements before committing.
About Dalian Medical University
Founded as Guandong Medical College in 1947, the institution passed through several organizational changes before becoming Dalian Medical University in 1994. It returned to Dalian in 1978 after an earlier relocation to Zunyi and moved to its present Lvshunkou campus in 2007. The university remains active and appears in China’s June 2026 national register of higher-education institutions. Its 2026 undergraduate admissions charter describes it as a public, full-time ordinary higher-education institution. DMU is medically focused rather than exclusively medical. The 2026 undergraduate catalogue includes clinical and basic medicine, stomatology, preventive medicine, nursing, pharmacy, rehabilitation, medical technology, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, psychology, law, photography, and visual communication design. The university also operates master’s and doctoral education, postdoctoral research stations, and a substantial system of affiliated hospitals. The university’s English general-information page, last updated in May 2024, reported more than 16,300 full-time students, including over 8,700 undergraduates, 6,500 graduate students, and 1,100 international students. Those figures are useful for understanding scale but should not be treated as a 2026 census. The same page reported 14 affiliated hospitals, three of them directly affiliated. This structure gives DMU a broad health-education environment, although the location and timing of clinical placements vary by program. International applicants should also note that English-medium availability is program-specific; the database’s general Chinese language designation does not describe every international offering.

How Admissions Work
Domestic undergraduate admission for 2026 follows the plans and placement rules of the relevant provincial examination authorities. DMU separates plans for physics and history categories in provinces using the reformed Gaokao system and applies score-first allocation without a score differential between program preferences. The university advises applicants to follow the subject requirements and program availability published for their province. Its foreign-language courses are taught only in English, although this statement concerns foreign-language classes and does not mean that all degree programs are English-medium. Health restrictions matter for many programs. The 2026 charter states that programs awarding degrees in medicine, science, or engineering do not admit applicants with colour blindness or colour weakness; arts programs do not admit applicants with colour blindness. Entrants undergo a post-admission health review. International applicants use a separate online system. The spring 2026 notice offered a preparatory program and an English-taught undergraduate Clinical Medicine program, with the system opening on 5 November 2025. It required online materials and authenticated graduation certificates and transcripts. That notice did not publish a closing date, so applicants must request the live deadline from the International Education College. For the 2026 Chinese Government Scholarship high-level graduate route, master’s applicants needed a bachelor’s degree and doctoral applicants a master’s degree. The notice required GPA 3.0 or above and specified HSK 5 at 180 for Chinese-taught study, or IELTS Academic 6.5 with no component below 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 90 with no component below 20 for non-native applicants to English-taught programs. Its 30 December 2025 deadline has passed and should not be reused for a later cycle.
Academic Experience
DMU offers education at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Its May 2024 institutional overview reported 27 undergraduate majors, ten first-level disciplines authorized for master’s degrees, seven professional master’s categories, four first-level doctoral disciplines, one professional doctoral category, and four postdoctoral research stations. The newer 2026 undergraduate charter lists 34 undergraduate entries, indicating that applicants should use the current admissions catalogue rather than the older overview when choosing a program. The 2026 undergraduate portfolio is concentrated in medicine and health. It includes five-year clinical medicine, basic medicine, anesthesiology, medical imaging, psychiatry, stomatology, preventive medicine, nursing, pharmacy, medical laboratory technology, rehabilitation therapy, and integrated Chinese and Western clinical medicine. Related options include biotechnology, biopharmaceuticals, biomedical engineering, intelligent medical engineering, applied psychology, and health and medical security. The catalogue also contains law and two arts programs. Several clinical medicine routes use an integrated “5+3” structure. The 2026 charter states that students who complete the prescribed curriculum and meet award requirements receive undergraduate and graduate credentials, with bachelor’s and master’s degrees issued when the university’s degree standards are satisfied. Applicants should review the exact provincial plan because not every major is necessarily offered in every province. Clinical education and research are linked to affiliated hospitals. The university reports three directly affiliated hospitals and eleven other affiliated hospitals, alongside research platforms in basic medicine, clinical medicine, public health, pharmacy, biology, and integrated Chinese and Western medicine. Access to a hospital network is relevant for training, but applicants should not assume that every program guarantees placement at a particular hospital or campus.

Student Life & Environment
Student life is centred on the main campus at No. 9 West Section, Lvshun South Road in Lvshunkou District. The university’s 2026 undergraduate charter reports a 1.51-million-square-metre campus, substantial teaching and research facilities, and a physical library collection of about 1.20 million volumes. These figures describe institutional capacity rather than the quality or availability of any particular student service. For students entering undergraduate study in 2026, university-assigned rooms accommodate three or four residents. The published accommodation charge is CNY 1,200 per student per academic year, subject to any later price-authority approval. Graduate accommodation is handled by the relevant school or institute, so master’s students should obtain arrangements directly from their academic unit. The cited international admissions notices do not publish a current international residence price or room specification. DMU’s May 2024 overview described a sizeable international community and students from many countries. International applicants nevertheless need to confirm the teaching language, visa documentation, residence arrangements, insurance, and clinical-practice rules for their specific program. The campus setting may suit students who value a large, medically oriented academic community, but it is separated from central Dalian and daily travel expectations should be considered before enrollment.
Location & Surroundings
The university’s main address is No. 9 West Section, Lvshun South Road, Lvshunkou District, Dalian, Liaoning Province. DMU’s history page says the campus lies approximately 25 kilometres from its former campus and that the university completed its move there in 2007. This is a distinct coastal-district setting rather than a central-city campus. Dalian is a major port city on the Liaodong Peninsula in northeast China. For prospective students, the practical point is that access to central Dalian, airports, railway stations, and affiliated clinical sites may require planned travel. The university’s hospitals are not all located on the main campus, and clinical assignments can therefore create a different daily routine from classroom-based study. Applicants should evaluate housing and transport in relation to their actual teaching site, particularly in clinical programs. The official sources reviewed provide the campus address and distance from the former campus but do not provide a current student transport timetable or guaranteed shuttle arrangements. International students should use the International Education College’s instructions for arrival planning rather than relying on general tourism information.
Costs & Career Outcomes
For domestic undergraduates entering under the 2026 charter, listed annual tuition varies by program. Most medical and health programs are CNY 5,500, while biotechnology, applied psychology, biopharmaceuticals, and biomedical engineering are CNY 5,200; law is CNY 4,800; photography and visual communication design are CNY 10,000. The undergraduate stage of the integrated “5+3” clinical medicine routes is CNY 5,500 per year and the master’s stage is CNY 12,000. Several newly listed programs carry a pending-filing notation, and the university states that approved provincial rates prevail if fees change. Undergraduate accommodation is CNY 1,200 per year. For 2026 domestic master’s study, academic degrees cost CNY 8,000 per year and professional degrees CNY 12,000. The graduate charter lists a competitive CNY 20,000 national scholarship and a CNY 6,000 national stipend for eligible non-directed master’s students, alongside university academic awards and assistantships. Eligibility should be checked individually. Current self-funded international tuition and housing prices were not published in the reviewed 2026 notices and should be obtained directly from the International Education College. Career preparation is closely tied to DMU’s medical and health focus, affiliated hospitals, research platforms, and clinical training. Potential pathways include healthcare practice, public health, pharmaceuticals, medical technology, biomedical research, and related management fields, subject to the chosen degree and professional licensing. DMU does not provide verified current salary or graduate-employment outcomes in the sources reviewed. International students should confirm whether the degree, internship structure, and clinical hours satisfy licensing rules in the country where they intend to practise.
