About UNDIP

Diponegoro University (Universitas Diponegoro, UNDIP) opened on 9 January 1957 as the private Universitas Semarang. President Sukarno renamed it after the Javanese prince Diponegoro in 1960, and it became a public university. Since 2014 it has been a legal-entity state university (PTN-BH), which gives it more autonomy over finances and programmes. Its founding anniversary is kept on 15 October, the date of the Five Days Battle of Semarang in 1945.

UNDIP is organised into 11 faculties and two schools, including a Vocational School, and offers 53 bachelor's programmes. Almost all faculties are on the main Tembalang campus in the hills above Semarang, which covers about 213 hectares. Medicine is based near Dr. Kariadi Hospital, and marine science has a field campus at Teluk Awur in Jepara.

Most teaching is in Indonesian, but the International Undergraduate Programme (IUP) teaches degrees in English in economics and business, law, engineering, social and political sciences, science, English literature and medicine. International students make up only about 4% of students (THE 2026 data), so the IUP suits students who want an affordable English-taught degree inside a mainly Indonesian university.
