About CityU Macau
City University of Macau (CityU Macau) traces its history to the University of East Asia, founded in 1981, and took its present name in 2011. It is a private university on the Taipa campus in Macau, and describes itself as one of the five comprehensive universities in Macao.
The university reports nearly 13,000 students (12,000+ in the 2026/27 admissions materials) and nearly 50 Chinese- and English-medium programmes (12 bachelor's, 22 master's and 15 doctoral) across eleven faculties, schools and institutes, including Business, Data Science, Finance, Health and Wellness, Humanities and Social Sciences, Innovation and Design, International Tourism and Management, Education, Law, an Institute for Research on Portuguese-Speaking Countries, and an Institute of Urban and Sustainable Development. Its 2026/27 undergraduate list includes (subject to registration for new programmes) Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Design, English, Portuguese, Applied Linguistics, Social Work and International Tourism and Hotel Management.
Tourism and hospitality is its best-documented strength: the university says its tourism management programmes hold TedQual certification from UN Tourism at every degree level. THE data show 64% international students, which makes campus life unusually mixed for its size. It suits applicants who want a small, degree-focused university in the Greater Bay Area, especially in business, tourism, design or data-related fields, and who are attracted by the entrance scholarships it offers to international students.
