About City St George's
City St George's, University of London was created on 1 August 2024 when City, University of London merged with St George's, University of London. City began in 1894 as the Northampton Institute in Clerkenwell and became The City University by royal charter in 1966; the Lord Mayor of London is still its Rector. St George's traces its teaching back to 1752 at St George's Hospital, where John Hunter and Edward Jenner studied and Henry Gray worked on Gray's Anatomy.
Today the university educates around 27,000 students on campuses in Clerkenwell, Moorgate and Tooting, organised into six schools: Bayes Business School, The City Law School, Communication and Creativity, Health and Medical Sciences, Policy and Global Affairs, and Science and Technology. It is one of the largest suppliers of the health workforce in London and one of the biggest university destinations for London students.
City St George's is strongest for professionally focused degrees such as journalism, which City has taught since 1975, business, law, economics and medicine. Most Clerkenwell courses ask for ABB at A-level, with contextual offers up to two grades lower, while Medicine asks for AAA to A*AA plus the UCAT and multiple mini-interviews.
Why students choose City St George's
Journalism students train in print, broadcast and online journalism with facilities the university compares to BBC or Sky studios, building on a journalism tradition dating from 1975.
The Complete University Guide 2026 ranks City St George's 13th in the UK for graduate outcomes, and it holds TEF Gold for student outcomes.
Many courses offer a four-year route with a placement or study-abroad year.
Medicine at Tooting ranks applicants objectively by UCAT and multiple mini-interview scores, and does not formally assess the personal statement.
