About BRACU

BRAC University was founded in 2001 by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, the founder of the development organisation BRAC, and is a private university approved by the Bangladesh Ministry of Education and accredited by the University Grants Commission. Its own website describes a liberal arts approach to education, English as the medium of instruction and examination, and a goal of pairing students with BRAC's experience of tackling extreme poverty.

The university reports more than 21,000 students, more than 26,000 graduates and students from 27 countries. It runs 18 undergraduate and 18 graduate programmes across 11 schools, 3 institutes and 5 centres, including the BRAC Business School, School of Law, School of Pharmacy, School of Architecture and Design, School of Data and Computational Sciences and School of Life Sciences.

The university also runs a Residential Semester on a countryside campus at Savar. BRAC University suits students who want an English-language degree in Dhaka, are comfortable with an admission test and interview, and want access to a scholarship system that awarded 1,927 students in 2024.

Costs & financial aid

2026-27 · figures in BDT

Derived annual estimate (not a published annual fee): per-credit tuition (Tk 8,250 for most programmes, Tk 8,800 for LL.B. and B.Arch studio courses, fee schedule for students enrolled from Spring 2025) x programme credits (FAQ and programme pages) / programme length. Four years is assumed for the four-year degrees (BRAC's Pharmacy and LL.B. pages state four years; 12 semesters at three a year); the B.Arch is a five-year degree (15 semesters, 207 credits). Examples: 120 credits x Tk 8,250 / 4 = Tk 247,500 (lowest, e.g. Economics); Pharmacy 164 x 8,250 / 4 = Tk 338,250; LL.B. 135 x 8,800 / 4 = Tk 297,000; B.Arch 207 x 8,250 / 5 = Tk 341,550 at the lecture rate (higher where studio credits are billed at Tk 8,800; at most Tk 364,320). Excludes the one-time admission fee of Tk 33,900, the semester fee (Tk 9,350 to 14,000 per semester, three semesters a year) and any freshman remedial courses. Fees may change. Tuition BDT 247,500 – BDT 341,550
Derived annual estimate, same method as above. Per the fee page, students from developing and SAARC countries pay the same per-credit tuition as local students (so Tk 247,500 to 341,550 a year by this method); students from developed countries pay double the local per-credit fee (up to 2 x Tk 341,550 = Tk 683,100). Foreign students also pay a US $20 application fee and a US $400 admission fee; the semester fee is the same as for local students. Tuition BDT 247,500 – BDT 683,100
