About AzUAC (AzMİU)
The Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzUAC, in Azerbaijani AzMİU) grew out of the civil engineering department of the Baku Polytechnic Institute, founded in 1920. It became the independent Azerbaijan Institute of Civil Engineers in 1975 and took its current name in 2000. The university describes itself as the country's largest scientific and educational centre for architects, construction engineers and related specialists.
It has about 550 professors and teaching staff and, in 2023-24, taught 53 specialties across 8 faculties, including Architecture, Construction, Water Management and Engineering Communication Systems, Transport, Construction Economics, and Mechanics and Information Technology, plus a Design faculty. Teaching is in Azerbaijani, Russian and English: Architecture, Design, Construction Engineering, Communication Systems Engineering and Information Technology can all be studied in English at bachelor's level. A construction college, a physics-and-maths lyceum and a design institute are attached to the university.
The university has taught foreign citizens since 1976, graduating about 3,000 from roughly 60 countries, and had about 450 foreign students in 2021-22. It suits students who want a focused, practical engineering or architecture degree at low cost in Baku, and who are ready to work within a large, traditional state university where much day-to-day communication is in Azerbaijani.
