About YU
Yarmouk University was established in 1976 and is a state-supported university on the edge of Irbid's city centre in northern Jordan. Its own site lists 15 faculties, spanning Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Science, the Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology, Information Technology and Computer Science, Business, Law, Arts, Sharia and Islamic Studies, Educational Sciences, Mass Communication, Physical Education, Archaeology and Anthropology, Tourism and Hotels, and Fine Arts.
For prospective students, the practical point is that the university's bulletin lists three admission routes: a regular program (through Jordan's unified admission process for Jordanian students, competitive by Tawjihi average), a parallel program for Jordanian students, and an international parallel program for non-Jordanians, which the university admits directly and requires the student to complete in person. Wikipedia (uncited) says the scientific faculties teach mainly in English and the other faculties mainly in Arabic.
The 2026/2027 bulletin of available bachelor's majors lists minimum admission averages from 65 to 90 and fees per credit hour by program. Students are supported by a Deanship of Student Affairs that covers student housing, health insurance, an International Students division, loans and grants, and a Language Center that also runs an Arabic program for non-native speakers. It suits students who want a large, Arabic-speaking public university with strong scientific, engineering and humanities faculties, and who are comfortable dealing with an admissions process that partly runs in Arabic.
Why students choose YU
A published fee-per-credit-hour bulletin (2026/2027) covers every bachelor's major, with the international parallel fees quoted in US dollars.
The university's own site lists 15 faculties, from Medicine and Pharmacy to Fine Arts and Archaeology and Anthropology.
A dedicated International Students division sits inside the Deanship of Student Affairs, and the Language Center runs an Arabic program for non-native speakers.
The Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology offers Computer, Electronics, Telecommunications, Power, Industrial, Civil and Architectural Engineering, and a Faculty of IT covers Cyber Security and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
