About Toulouse INP
Toulouse INP, the National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse, was created in 1969 and is one of France's university-status engineering institutes. It groups three founding engineering schools, INP-ENSEEIHT (electrical engineering, electronics, computing, hydraulics and telecoms), INP-ENSIACET (chemical engineering, chemistry and materials) and INP-AgroToulouse (agronomy and life sciences), plus the IPST-Cnam lifelong learning institute. It is a member of Groupe INP, which it describes as France's leading network of engineering schools, and a partner in the Université de Toulouse.
It is small and specialised: about 4,400 students, 461 teachers and teacher-researchers, 985 staff and 14 research laboratories, many shared with the CNRS and INRAE, across five sites in and around Toulouse, from the city-centre ENSEEIHT campus to Labège and the Auzeville agrobiopole. Engineering students spend on average ten months on internships, and almost all spend at least three months abroad through some 250 partner universities.
Most students enter an engineering school after two years of preparatory study, either through the national competitive exams (CCINP and others) or through La Prépa des INP, a two-year integrated prépa on continuous assessment with no final exam. It suits students with strong maths and science who want a grande école engineering degree in Toulouse, a centre of the aerospace, space and agri-food industries.

No overall admission rate is published. Entry is competitive: La Prépa des INP Toulouse has 100 first-year places, selected on the school record (85%) and motivation (15%); the engineering schools recruit mainly through national competitive exams after two years of preparatory classes, for example ENSEEIHT's Digital Sciences department offers 74 places through the CCINP MP exam and 18 to La Prépa des INP students.

How to apply
For La Prépa des INP, apply on Parcoursup in your final year of school, then complete the RANKINP candidate space (motivation letter or interview). Students in foreign, non-AEFE schools apply through Études en France and write to La Prépa des INP to start the non-Parcoursup procedure. For the engineering schools, sit the national competitive exams after preparatory classes or apply on qualifications; master's applications go through eCandidat.
What admissions looks for
- A strong science-focused school record in the last two years of secondary school, which makes up 85% of the La Prépa des INP score.
- Motivation and openness, assessed through a 15-20 minute interview or a motivation letter and the Parcoursup fiche avenir.
- For engineering-cycle entry, results in the national competitive exams or a relevant bac+2/bac+3 record for admission on qualifications.
- For applicants from foreign schools, C1 French and good maths and physics ranks in class.
Tips for applying to Toulouse INP
- 1 Visit the Toulouse open day on 6 February 2027 before you submit your Parcoursup wishes.
- 2 If you are in a non-French, non-AEFE school, don't apply on Parcoursup: use Études en France and email La Prépa des INP to start its separate procedure.
- 3 Prepare your Parcoursup 'projet de formation motivé' carefully: it feeds the motivation score.
- 4 Non-EU students heading for La Prépa des INP should ask the Toulouse site about fees: it partly exempted non-EU students to the EU rate in 2026, but since the May 2026 decree such exemptions are no longer automatic, and the full differentiated fee is 2,902 euros.

Students holding French means-tested grants (boursiers) are exempt from tuition fees, and 27% of Toulouse INP students hold such grants. ENSEEIHT and ENSIACET charge the same engineering-cycle fee to all nationalities; for La Prépa des INP, the Toulouse site's partial exemption for non-EU students (to the EU rate) was in place in 2026 but may not be automatic after the May 2026 decree. The FSDIE fund supports student projects.

La Prépa des INP (integrated prépa)
Two years on continuous assessment, 30 hours of classes a week and a 6-8 week internship, then entry without competitive exam to a Groupe INP engineering school.
ENSEEIHT engineering degree
Electrical engineering, electronics, computing, hydraulics and telecoms in central Toulouse; departments include Digital Sciences (SN), 3EA and MF2E fluid mechanics and energy.
ENSIACET engineering degree
Chemistry, chemical and process engineering and materials at the Labège campus, next to labs such as LGC, CIRIMAT and LCC.
AgroToulouse agronomy engineer
Life and agricultural sciences with third-year specialisations from agroecology and agrogeomatics to food engineering and computational biology.

Student life
Student life is organised by school: each of ENSEEIHT, ENSIACET and AgroToulouse has its own student bureau and clubs, and the Toulouse INP student association brings together more than a hundred associations and clubs across cultural, sporting, humanitarian and technical projects. Big shared events include the start-of-year cohesion day and the INP'iades, a weekend when all Toulouse INP schools compete in football, rugby, handball, basketball and athletics. International students get Welcome Days and a Welcome Desk run with the Université de Toulouse, and Toulouse INP holds the two-star Bienvenue en France label.

Toulouse is the capital of the Occitanie region, between the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees, with an economy where industry and research are closely linked, especially aerospace, space and agri-food.
