About Tor Vergata
The University of Rome Tor Vergata was founded in 1982, which makes it young by Italian standards. It was laid out on the model of an Anglo-Saxon campus: its six Schools (Economics, Engineering, Humanities and Philosophy, Law, Medicine and Surgery, and Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences) and 18 departments sit on a 600-hectare site in south-east Rome, about 40 minutes by metro from the historic centre. The university reports more than 33,000 students and about 120 degree programmes.
The campus also hosts the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and the Policlinico Tor Vergata teaching hospital is on site. The English-taught undergraduate offer is small but distinctive. It includes the Global Governance bachelor's, which admits students on their school record and an interview; Business Administration and Economics, which uses the CISIA CEnT-S test and an interview; Engineering Sciences; and single-cycle degrees in Medicine and Surgery and in Pharmacy.
Tor Vergata suits students who want a public Italian university with capped, selective English-taught programmes rather than mass lecture courses, and who are happy to live on or commute to a suburban campus. Fees depend on family income for students with Italian income, while most students whose family income is earned abroad pay a flat annual contribution.

Global Governance is an English-taught bachelor's capped at about 200 places a year that mixes politics, economics and law, with a double degree with Paris-Est Créteil.
The English-taught Pharmacy degree scored highest in Italy among single-cycle Pharmacy programmes in the CENSIS 2026/2027 rankings, as it did the year before.

Tor Vergata publishes no overall admission rate. Many Italian-taught degrees are open access. The English-taught bachelor's degrees and Medicine have fixed places: in 2026-27, Global Governance offered up to 204 places (75 for non-EU applicants living abroad), Business Administration and Economics 200 (10 for non-EU visa applicants), and English-taught Medicine and Surgery 65 places in Rome for EU and resident applicants, 20 for non-EU applicants living abroad and 320 at the Tirana (Albania) site.

Tor Vergata has not yet published its 2027-28 calls. All dates shown are from the 2026-27 cycle and are for reference only; expect calls for English-taught bachelor's degrees to open again around November 2026 to January 2027, with the earliest rounds holding most of the places for non-EU applicants.
How to apply
Choose a programme and follow its call for applications (bando). Applications and documents go through the university's Delphi portal. Global Governance and Business Administration and Economics run several selection rounds with separate places for non-EU applicants living abroad. Non-EU applicants living abroad must also complete pre-enrolment on Universitaly, by 31 July or before the admission test where there is one, and apply for a study visa (for 2026-27 the latest date was 30 November 2026).
What admissions looks for
- A recognised school-leaving diploma from at least 12 years of schooling that gives university access in the country where it was obtained.
- For Global Governance: a school record and experience that show aptitude for politics, economics and law, then clear, well-argued answers in English at interview about global challenges and the programme.
- For Business Administration and Economics: solid mathematics and reasoning, shown on the CEnT-S, plus maturity, general knowledge, B2 English and an understanding of the course at interview.
- For English-taught Medicine: a score of at least 20 on the national test, which covers biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics, reasoning and reading.
Tips for applying to Tor Vergata
- 1 If you need a visa, apply in the first round: most places for non-EU applicants living abroad are in the early calls (for example 35 of 75 in Global Governance's first call, and all 10 visa places in Business Administration and Economics' first round).
- 2 For Business Administration and Economics, take the CISIA CEnT-S early (any CEnT-S sitting from November of the previous year counts), because only the Mathematics and Reasoning on Texts and Data sections are scored and you need at least 15.
- 3 Start your document checks straight away: a CIMEA Statement of Verification is compulsory for diplomas from transnational schools (for example a British or US diploma awarded outside that country), and Universitaly pre-enrolment is only approved once documents are uploaded.
- 4 Check whether declaring your family income (ISEE Parificato) is cheaper than the flat foreign-income fee: the income-based fee for students with income abroad starts at 156 euros.

For students with Italian income, fees are set by the ISEE-Università: full exemption up to 26,000 euros and reductions up to 30,000 euros. Italian-system school leavers with 100/100 pay no university contribution in year one, and Italian Government scholarship holders are fully exempt. Students with income abroad can declare it via the ISEE Parificato instead of paying the flat fee. Regional Lazio DiSCo scholarships exempt winners from the 140 euro regional fee, but students with foreign income still pay the flat contribution.

Student life
Tor Vergata is one of the few Italian universities built as a single campus. Each School has its own library, reading rooms, labs, canteen and green space, and the teaching hospital is part of the site. The campus is on the city's south-eastern edge, about 40 minutes by metro from central Rome and 20 minutes from the Castelli Romani hill towns. Student housing near campus includes regional Lazio DiSCo residences and the private Campus X complex. English-taught programmes such as Global Governance add conferences, visits to institutions and exchanges with foreign universities.

Location
Tor Vergata is on the south-eastern outskirts of Rome, outside the Grande Raccordo Anulare ring road. The historic centre is about 40 minutes away by metro, and the vineyards and hill towns of the Castelli Romani are about 20 minutes away. Most students split their time between a spacious, green campus and the city, so budget for commuting if you live centrally.
