Student Life & Environment

Student life is distributed across TAMK’s Tampere campuses and the wider Tampere Universities community. New students receive support from student tutors, who help them become familiar with their programme, meet peers and adjust to the study environment. The Student Union Tamko represents students and runs services and community activities; membership is optional. Field-specific and interest-based student associations add further ways to participate. Students can use Tampere University Library services, while SportUni provides shared sports facilities and exercise services across three campuses for a separate fee. Degree students also have access to the Finnish Student Health Service, subject to the applicable national health-care fee. TAMK’s teaching culture expects initiative, responsibility and participation in teamwork, but study guidance and student organizations are available for support. Housing is not supplied or guaranteed by TAMK. Students must apply independently, commonly through TOAS or POAS, and the university advises applying promptly after admission because affordable housing can be scarce before the autumn semester. Some accommodation is shared, and applicants should check whether furniture, utilities and internet are included. International students can also use settling-in resources and a friendship programme connecting students with local residents. Campus life is therefore integrated with the city rather than organized around a residential university complex.

Location & Surroundings

TAMK is based in Tampere, a major inland city in Finland. Its main campus is at Kuntokatu 3 in Kauppi, approximately three kilometres from Tampere’s main railway station and close to Tampere University Hospital. The campus contains teaching rooms, laboratories, simulation facilities, dining options and collaborative learning spaces. Accessible routes and facilities are documented on the campus page. Mediapolis is in Tohloppi, about six kilometres from central Tampere, and concentrates on media-content production and ICT. Because programmes may be assigned to different locations or use blended delivery, students should confirm the relevant campus before arranging a commute or housing. Both TAMK campuses are reachable by public transport. Tampere also has direct rail and bus connections to other major Finnish cities, while walking and cycling are practical for many local trips. The university does not operate a traditional residential campus, so daily life extends into the surrounding neighbourhoods. Students comparing accommodation should weigh rent against distance to their actual teaching site, especially when considering private rentals rather than purpose-built student housing.

Costs & Career Outcomes

As of TAMK’s July 2026 update, the tuition fee is €12,000 per academic year for all its degree programmes. In general, this applies to citizens from outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland studying in English-taught bachelor’s or master’s programmes. Certain Finnish residence statuses provide exemptions, and eligibility depends on the permit and its basis, so applicants should use TAMK’s current fee guidance rather than infer liability from nationality alone. TAMK offers cohort-based tuition waivers. For bachelor’s entrants, the published Early Bird arrangement can waive the second 50% instalment when an offer is accepted and the first instalment paid within the specified 14-day period; waiting-list entrants may not qualify. Continuing bachelor’s students can earn waivers based on annual credit completion, with a larger waiver tied to both progress and specified Finnish-language evidence. Newly admitted master’s students may receive a 20% early-payment discount, while later waivers depend on credit progress. Exact terms should be checked in the conditional offer and cohort rules. TAMK estimates ordinary living costs in Tampere at €800–€1,200 per month, including typical student housing of about €200–€600; private-market rent may start around €600. Housing is not guaranteed. Students must also plan for transport, food, health-service fees, insurance where required and occasional materials. Career preparation is embedded in practical training, client projects and employer collaboration. Master’s assignments are often linked to current employment. TAMK cautions that part-time work can be difficult to find, particularly without Finnish, so earnings should not be treated as assured study funding.
