About Taiwan Tech

National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, known as Taiwan Tech or NTUST, was established in 1974 as a college dedicated to science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and has grown into a public research university. Its main campus is on Keelung Road in Taipei's Da'an District, next to the Gongguan area, with a second teaching site at the Hwahsia Campus in New Taipei City.

Taiwan Tech has about 11,300 students: 5,806 undergraduates, 4,430 master's students and 1,038 doctoral students, taught by 533 full-time faculty. It is strongly graduate-heavy and industry-facing, organised into the colleges of Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Design, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Applied Sciences, and Industry-Academia Innovation, the School of Management and the College of Intellectual Property Studies. There are 1,465 international students, including 961 foreign students.

For international undergraduates the choice is narrow but clear. The International Advanced Technology Program is taught fully in English; almost every other bachelor's programme, from Electrical Engineering to Architecture, is taught in Chinese and requires TOCFL. There is only a fall intake, and Taiwan Tech offers no university scholarship to bachelor's students. It suits practical, engineering-minded students who want to study in the middle of Taipei and close to Taiwan's electronics industry.

Why students choose Taiwan Tech

The International Advanced Technology Program is taught entirely in English and needs only CEFR B1 English and a study plan.

Undergraduate fees are set in New Taiwan dollars at about NT$49,000 to NT$55,000 per semester, including incidental fees.

Chinese-taught majors include Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Architecture and Industrial and Commercial Design.

Alumni include Supermicro founder and CEO Charles Liang, who studied electrical engineering at Taiwan Tech.

Selectivity

Taiwan Tech does not publish an acceptance rate. For Fall 2026 it set a quota of 110 international bachelor's places across all departments. Committees decide on qualifications and documents; some departments may interview.

Testing No entrance exam. Admission is by document review (study plan, transcripts, two recommendation letters, language certificates); some departments may hold oral interviews.

Taiwan Tech only admits international undergraduates for the fall semester. The Fall 2026 guidelines were posted on 1 December 2025; the Fall 2027 guidelines had not been published as of September 2026, and a similar January to March application window is likely.

How to apply

Apply online at admissions.ntust.edu.tw; paper applications are not accepted. Upload a photo, passport, diploma (or enrolment certificate if graduating), English or Chinese transcript, language certificates, the department's required documents (such as a study plan) and a financial statement declaration, and collect two recommendation letters through the system. The application fee is US$30 (NT$1,000) per department. Admitted students must then show at least US$4,000 in cash in a bank statement.

What admissions looks for

A clear study plan in Chinese or English for your chosen department.
Language readiness: TOCFL at the department's level for Chinese-taught programmes, and at least CEFR B1 English.
A strong academic record shown in your transcripts and two recommendation letters.
Financial readiness: admitted students without scholarships must show at least US$4,000 in cash.

Tips for applying to Taiwan Tech

1 Check which departments are open: for Fall 2026, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic and Computer Engineering and Business Administration were not recruiting international bachelor's students.
2 Get the right TOCFL level early: requirements vary by department from Level 2 to Level 5.
3 Do not count on a Taiwan Tech scholarship as an undergraduate: none is offered, so look at Taiwan's government Taiwan Scholarship instead.
4 Prepare the bank statement in advance: it has to be an English document from a bank, dated within six months, and uploaded when you accept the offer.

Student life

Taiwan Tech is a compact city campus on Keelung Road, a short walk from Gongguan MRT station and the student neighbourhood around it. With 1,465 international students, including 961 foreign degree students, the campus has an established international community. International first-year undergraduates get priority for dormitory beds, then join the regular housing lottery with local students from their second year. Taipei's MRT makes the whole city easy to reach. Admitted students register in September and must bring the original language certificates they uploaded.

Location

Taipei is Taiwan's capital and largest city. Taiwan Tech's main campus is at 43 Keelung Road in Da'an District, in the south of the city, about a 10-minute walk from Gongguan MRT station, so the rest of Taipei is easy to reach by metro. The Hwahsia Campus is in Zhonghe District, New Taipei City.
