Student Life & Environment

Student life is distributed across two urban campuses rather than concentrated in one residential setting. The Office of Student Affairs organizes financial-aid assistance, extracurricular activities, health services, counseling, career support, and housing services. Student clubs and organized activities therefore form part of the university experience, while health and counseling services operate at both campuses. University-managed accommodation is available through several residence facilities, but applicants should not treat housing as automatic. The Student Housing Center publishes application procedures, room information, charges, move-in periods, and refund rules. It also provides nearby private-rental information and help with rental-contract issues. For 2026/27, residence charges are assessed by semester, a deposit is collected annually, and the published rules generally stop refunds after the sixth day following opening except in specified withdrawal or leave situations. Students should confirm their assigned building, occupancy type, utilities, internet charges, and subsidy eligibility before committing. The split-campus arrangement shapes daily routines. Law and business students may have some first-year classes at Waishuanghsi, and activities or services can require travel between campuses. Both locations have student-affairs support, but the physical setting differs: Waishuanghsi is the larger, greener academic environment, while Downtown places students within central Taipei. International students can also access scholarship and visa guidance through the international office and Chinese-language support through the university’s language center.

Location & Surroundings

Soochow University has two campuses in Taipei. Waishuanghsi is at No. 70, Linxi Road in Shilin District, near the National Palace Museum and the cultural and scenic sites of northern Taipei. It houses four colleges and provides the institution’s more conventional main-campus environment. Students should examine their commuting route because access may involve local buses in addition to Taipei’s rail network. The Downtown campus is at No. 56, Section 1, Guiyang Street in Zhongzheng District. It accommodates law and business in Taipei’s administrative and commercial center, close to government and judicial institutions. This setting may be particularly relevant for students whose coursework or professional interests connect with law, government, finance, or business. Both campuses are served by public transportation, but they are not adjacent. The 2026 prospectus specifically warns that first-year law and business students have some weekly classes at Waishuanghsi. Housing choice should therefore account for the student’s principal college, possible cross-campus classes, evening activities, and travel time. Taipei offers extensive public services and urban amenities, though living costs and rental conditions vary significantly by neighborhood and room type.

Costs & Career Outcomes

Soochow charges tuition by academic area and study stage. Its official international fee page lists semester reference charges effective for fall 2024 entrants: NTD 48,370 for most liberal arts, social sciences, foreign-language, and law programs; NTD 49,110 for most business programs; NTD 55,990 for science, big data management, and computer science and information management; NTD 56,460 for music before individual coaching; and NTD 58,044 for the Global Program in Interdisciplinary Studies. Graduate students in their standard study period are listed at the corresponding disciplinary rate. These figures exclude items such as insurance, computing or network resources, language laboratories, and some program-specific charges. Because those published figures are tied to an earlier entrant cohort, they should be treated as planning references, not guaranteed 2026/27 prices. A 2026 admission brochure stated that the 2026/27 schedule would be announced after the university’s budget process. Students should obtain the final invoice for their program and include housing, deposit, utilities, insurance, books, transport, visa or residence costs, and personal expenses in their budget. Scholarship and tuition-reduction rules exist for eligible international, overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, and Macao entrants, including guidelines effective from academic year 2026/27. Awards are conditional; students should confirm eligibility, duration, renewal standards, and whether a separate application is required. Career support is available on both campuses. The Career Development Center provides individual counseling, assessment, career information, lectures, business visits, internship and recruitment resources, plus services aimed at international students.
