Sign up to see your chancesSeneca Polytechnic is a publicly assisted Ontario college with campuses in Toronto, York Region and Peterborough. Founded in 1967, it operates legally as The Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology while using Seneca Polytechnic as its public brand. Seneca independently awards bachelor’s degrees alongside Ontario college diplomas, advanced diplomas, certificates and graduate certificates. Its bachelor’s portfolio spans subjects such as business, computing, engineering, aviation, health, biotechnology, communications and design. Teaching emphasizes the combination of academic study and applied professional preparation, with work-integrated learning available across many programs. Prospective students should compare programs individually because prerequisites, delivery formats, campuses, work-placement structures, availability to international applicants and tuition differ. Seneca’s advertised master’s offering is delivered with Niagara University and should not be interpreted as evidence that Seneca independently awards master’s degrees.
About Seneca Polytechnic
Seneca opened in 1967 as part of Ontario’s public college system. It now presents itself as Seneca Polytechnic, a branding decision intended to reflect its mix of academically rigorous and career-focused education. The legal institution remains The Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology, so applicants may encounter both names on government records and official credentials. The branding change did not create a separate institution. Seneca is a publicly assisted college rather than a university in the conventional Canadian classification. Its authority to offer its own bachelor’s programs makes it a degree-granting higher-education institution, but its credential range is broader than degrees alone. Current offerings include bachelor’s degrees as well as diplomas, advanced diplomas, certificates, graduate certificates and microcredentials. Graduate certificates are distinct Ontario college credentials and should not be treated as master’s degrees. The institution operates across several locations. Newnham and Seneca@York are in Toronto; King Campus is in King City; the Peterborough aviation campus serves upper years of the Honours Bachelor of Aviation Technology; and online study is available for selected programs. Seneca’s campus page states that academic programs formerly offered at Markham Campus–Seneca International Academy moved beginning in Winter 2025, so students should verify the present campus on the individual program page rather than relying on older material. Seneca continues to accept students. As of August 2026, its international admissions information lists September 2026, January 2027 and May 2027 intakes, subject to program availability.

How Admissions Work
Admission is program-specific. Canadian applicants to full-time programs normally apply through OntarioColleges.ca and may select up to three Seneca choices within the service’s five-choice limit. Seneca then provides access to its Student Home system for application status, required tasks and decisions. Ontario’s general college standard permits applicants with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma to apply, while individual programs may impose additional academic, portfolio, testing or prerequisite requirements. For international applicants to a Seneca bachelor’s program, the published baseline includes secondary-school completion, transcripts for Grades 10 through 12, six senior courses equivalent to Ontario university-preparation credits and an overall average of at least 65 percent. Program prerequisites may include mathematics or sciences. Meeting the stated minimum does not guarantee admission, especially in competitive programs. Applicants educated in a country where English is not the primary language must normally document English preparation or provide an accepted test. For degree programs, Seneca currently lists IELTS Academic 6.5 with no skill below 6.0, alongside alternatives such as CAEL, Cambridge English, Duolingo, PTE Academic and TOEFL. Tests must generally have been taken within the preceding two years, and certain programs, including nursing, apply their own requirements. As of August 2026, international applications are advertised for September 2026, January 2027 and May 2027. Availability varies by program, and Seneca states that domestic applicants receive priority at this publicly assisted institution. International applicants should rely on the intake shown in the current program listing and the deadlines stated in their offer.
Academic Experience
Seneca offers a wide range of applied postsecondary credentials, but only its bachelor’s degrees map to the degree levels used in this profile. Its current degree list includes programs in aviation, business, computer science, software engineering, cosmetic science, behavioural psychology, child development, communications and media, data science, health administration, cybersecurity, biotechnology, nursing and therapeutic recreation. Applicants should consult the individual program page because not every subject is available at every campus or in every delivery format. The academic model combines theory with practical and professional learning. Seneca reports work-integrated learning in more than 140 programs. Depending on the program, this may take the form of mandatory co-op, an optional co-op stream or another work experience. A work term can be paid or unpaid. Mandatory co-op terms generally resemble a full academic semester, require at least 420 hours and must be completed for graduation. Participation is conditional on remaining in good academic standing and satisfying the program’s eligibility rules. Students with previous college or university study may seek transfer credit or use a defined pathway into a Seneca credential. Published pathways include routes from Ontario college diplomas or advanced diplomas into bachelor’s programs. Credit and advanced-standing decisions depend on the specific prior program and Seneca’s assessment; the existence of a pathway should not be assumed without checking the current transfer guide. Seneca also advertises a master’s program delivered in partnership with Niagara University. Because the partner university delivers that degree, this profile does not classify Seneca itself as a master’s-awarding institution. Similarly, Seneca graduate certificates are not represented as master’s degrees.

Student Life & Environment
Student experience varies considerably by location. Newnham is a large urban campus with athletics and recreation facilities, food services, a medical centre, computing facilities and security. Seneca@York is located on York University grounds, while King offers a more rural setting in York Region. Students should check where their program is taught before choosing housing or planning a commute, particularly because some programs have moved campuses. Institution-wide support includes free counselling, tutoring, learning-strategy assistance, exam preparation, libraries, career planning and academic-pathway advising. The Service Hub acts as a centralized contact point for routine and more complex student questions. First Peoples@Seneca provides culturally responsive academic, personal and career support for Indigenous students. Student Life programming is intended to help students meet peers and participate in the campus community. International student services include orientation, immigration advisement, housing assistance, health-insurance information, cultural activities and airport pickup. Housing should be budgeted separately and investigated early. Seneca provides housing and accommodation assistance, but applicants should verify current availability, contract conditions and total charges directly before making a commitment. Campus amenities and activities are not uniform. Peterborough, for example, is a specialized aviation location rather than a general Toronto campus. A student’s practical experience will therefore depend more on the assigned campus and program schedule than on institution-wide descriptions.
Location & Surroundings
Seneca is associated with Toronto but operates across a wider geographic area. Newnham Campus is at Finch Avenue East and Highway 404 in Toronto and hosts programs in business, hospitality and tourism, applied arts, applied science and engineering technology. Seneca@York is also in Toronto, on the grounds of York University near Steeles Avenue and Keele Street. King Campus is in King City, approximately 40 minutes north of Toronto according to Seneca, on a 282-hectare property of woods, fields and a lake. Its setting and commute differ substantially from the urban Toronto campuses. The Peterborough campus is at Peterborough Airport and serves years two through four of the Honours Bachelor of Aviation Technology. Students considering that degree must account for the move away from Toronto after the first year. Seneca also lists online study as a location option, with both scheduled and independent formats depending on the course. Markham Campus–Seneca International Academy is no longer a reliable default location: Seneca states that its academic programs moved beginning in Winter 2025. Applicants should use the current program page and offer letter to confirm the exact campus before arranging transportation or accommodation.
Costs & Career Outcomes
Seneca publishes tuition by program rather than one institution-wide price. Its international fee table covers the 2026/2027 academic year and allows applicants to check costs for programs beginning in September 2026, January 2027 or May 2027. The table defines a standard year as two semesters unless a program is specifically marked otherwise. Because fees differ by credential, program length and intake, prospective students should use the exact program code and start term when budgeting. No single tuition figure is presented here as representative of every student. International applicants currently pay a CAD 90 application fee through Seneca’s international application. Seneca’s 2026 admissions information says this amount is credited to the student account after admission and payment of first-semester fees when the stated conditions are met. Tuition, compulsory ancillary charges, books, equipment, transportation, housing, food, health coverage and immigration-related expenses should be checked separately. Domestic students should consult their program’s fee page and eligibility rules for Ontario financial assistance, scholarships or bursaries. Career preparation is embedded differently across programs. Seneca reports work-integrated learning in more than 140 programs, including mandatory and optional co-op arrangements. A mandatory co-op is generally at least 420 hours and must be completed to graduate; work terms may be paid or unpaid. Seneca Works provides career workshops and individual coaching, but students remain responsible for meeting eligibility conditions and competing for positions. Applicants should examine the program curriculum to determine whether a placement is guaranteed as a curricular requirement, optional, or absent, and whether professional licensing requires additional steps after graduation.
