Student Life & Environment

UNM has a residential-campus model, with academic buildings, accommodation and many everyday facilities located on the Semenyih site. Official campus information identifies a library, Student Association complex, shops, a sports centre and swimming pool. Indoor and outdoor recreation includes gym facilities and access to the campus lake area. Student clubs and societies provide routes into academic, cultural, recreational and service activities, while university services include wellbeing, learning support, international-student support and career guidance. The university’s 11 on-campus halls provide about 2,400 beds in single, twin-share and four-share configurations. Rooms are furnished and include internet access; rental includes water, electricity and Wi-Fi, although additional air-conditioning use can be charged. Each floor has a pantry for light cooking, but there is no residential meal plan. Food outlets, convenience facilities and delivery collection options are available on campus. Housing is not guaranteed, and the university advises students to apply early through its accommodation portal. This is particularly relevant for international students and anyone without private transport because the campus is outside central Kuala Lumpur. Students who want greater independence can investigate off-campus housing, but should compare transport, utilities, contracts and commute time carefully. The residential setting encourages campus involvement, while students seeking a dense city-centre lifestyle may find the location quieter and more structured.

Location & Surroundings

The campus is on Jalan Broga in Semenyih, Selangor, approximately 30 kilometres south of Kuala Lumpur city centre. It occupies a 48-hectare site overlooking green hills and functions as a largely self-contained campus rather than an urban building complex. Academic facilities, residences, sports amenities, food outlets and shops are grouped on or near the site. Official university information says students can connect with Kuala Lumpur and surrounding areas through bus or rail links reached using complimentary campus shuttle services. Travel time depends on traffic and the destination, so applicants planning regular city trips, internships or part-time activities should examine current shuttle timetables and last-mile connections before choosing housing. Semenyih offers a quieter setting than central Kuala Lumpur, with the practical advantage of short walks between residences and academic buildings for students living on campus. The tradeoff is greater reliance on scheduled transport, ride-hailing or a private vehicle for some off-campus needs. International students should also budget for travel to immigration, medical or administrative appointments that may occur away from campus.

Costs & Career Outcomes

Tuition varies by programme, level and citizenship, so students should use the fee quoted for their specific course and intake rather than a campus-wide estimate. The university’s 2026 prospectus contains programme fees, while its payment guidance distinguishes Malaysian and international students. From 1 July 2025, UNM stated that a 6% service tax applies to higher-education services supplied to non-Malaysian citizens; on-campus accommodation, refundable security deposits and visa-processing fees were listed as exempt. Tax treatment and fee schedules should be checked again when accepting an offer. As displayed in August 2026, on-campus monthly room rates ranged from RM550 for a four-share room without air-conditioning to RM1,200 for a super-deluxe single en-suite room with air-conditioning. Other listed options fell between those amounts. Rent included water, electricity and Wi-Fi, with separately metered excess air-conditioning use. Housing is not guaranteed, and there is no meal plan, so a realistic budget must also cover food, transport, books, personal expenses, visa costs and health-related charges. Career support is available to foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate students and alumni. Services include individual career consultations, résumé review, workshops, mentoring, vacancy and internship listings, employer events and interview opportunities. The April 2026 Careers and Internship Fair brought more than 30 companies to campus. These services create access to employers but do not guarantee placement, salary or permission for international graduates to work in Malaysia; immigration and professional-licensing rules must be assessed separately.
