Residential life is organized around three principal housing areas. Hoosac Hall provides a traditional residence-hall setting and is used for first-year students. Berkshire Towers offers suite-style accommodation, while the Flagg Townhouses provide apartment-style housing for eligible upper-class students. MCLA is located at 375 Church Street in North Adams, a small city in the northwest corner of Massachusetts. The campus sits in the Berkshires, a mountainous region known for cultural institutions and outdoor recreation. Downtown North Adams is about a five-minute walk from campus, allowing students to reach cafés, galleries, community events, and MCLA’s downtown facilities without treating the college as an isolated residential site. MASS MoCA, a major contemporary visual and performing arts center, is only blocks away. The wider area includes the Clark Art Institute and other cultural venues, while nearby outdoor destinations include Mount Greylock State Reservation, the Appalachian Trail, lakes, ski areas, and local hiking routes. These surroundings can support study, internships, recreation, and arts engagement, especially for students in environmental or creative fields. North Adams is not a major metropolitan center. MCLA places it less than three hours from Boston and a little over three hours from New York City, but routine access to larger cities requires planning. Regional buses and local taxi services are available, while a car may be useful for exploring dispersed Berkshire destinations.
