About LUT
LUT University (Lappeenranta–Lahti University of Technology) opened in 1969 in Lappeenranta with a first class of 39 students, added business in 1991 and took its current name in 2019, when its Lahti unit became a full campus. Its main campus in Skinnarila sits on the shore of Lake Saimaa, and it also has units in Kouvola, Mikkeli and Brussels. In 2025 it had 9,126 degree students from 103 nationalities.
LUT is organised into the School of Energy Systems, the School of Engineering Science (which includes social sciences) and LUT Business School. Its focus is technology and business for sustainability: energy, clean water, circular economy and solar power research are central, and the university reports ranking ninth in the world for climate action (SDG 13) in the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings. Most programmes carry international accreditations such as EUR-ACE, AACSB and EFMD.
All bachelor's programmes are three-year, 180 ECTS degrees taught in English on campus. Instead of competing in Finland's national joint application, international applicants use rolling admission: if you meet the published grade or test thresholds, you are admitted while places remain. LUT suits practical, maths-strong students who want an engineering or business degree in English, a straightforward admission route and a quiet lakeside setting.

LUT does not publish an admission rate. In international rolling admission, applicants who meet the grade or test thresholds are admitted without competition as long as places remain in the chosen programme; each applicant may apply to only one bachelor's programme.

Certified hard copies (or Digitary-verified documents) of the degree certificate and transcript must reach LUT Admissions Services, or the place is revoked.
For 2027 entry LUT lists only rolling admission for its English-taught bachelor's programmes (1 September 2026 to 30 April 2027); it does not list a January joint-application round for them. Because places are filled as applications are approved, applying early is an advantage.
How to apply
Apply online via Studyinfo.fi to one LUT bachelor's programme during rolling admission, uploading your upper secondary certificate, transcript, maths curriculum, English test (if needed) and passport. Non-EU/EEA citizens pay Finland's EUR 100 application fee. Admitted students must confirm their place and pay the tuition fee within three weeks, then mail certified copies of their final documents to Lappeenranta by 30 July 2027.
What admissions looks for
- Strong advanced mathematics: LUT checks your maths grades and the official maths curriculum topics, from calculus to vectors.
- Good grades in physics or chemistry for technology programmes (IT subjects for Software and Systems Engineering).
- Good English, proven by an accepted test, qualifying IB or EB English results, or the SAT.
- A complete application: missing documents must be supplied within two weeks or the application is discarded.
Tips for applying to LUT
- 1 Apply early in the rolling window: admission is without competition, but only while places remain.
- 2 If your school maths is weak or not documented, book the OMPT at least three days ahead and allow five working days for results; you get two attempts.
- 3 A SAT with 600 in reading and writing and 700 in Math covers both the English and the maths requirement.
- 4 Confirm and pay within three weeks of admission to lock in the first-year early bird fee of EUR 10,000, and remember that confirming LUT rules out any other Finnish study place for autumn 2027.
- 5 Check the country-specific document rules early if your school certificate is from China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, an African country or another listed country; late documents mean losing your place.

Non-EU/EEA students receive an early bird discount of EUR 2,000 on first-year tuition, then scholarships of EUR 3,000 (as a tuition discount) for the second and third years if they complete at least 60 and 120 ECTS on time. Double-degree programmes with Hebei University of Technology have no early bird discount but offer the same EUR 3,000 scholarships. Students who continue into an LUT master's pay EUR 9,000 for the first master's year.

Bachelor's Programme in Energy Technology
Taught in the School of Energy Systems, which runs the LUT Voima experimental research unit; LUT's solar energy research is a core strength.

Student life
The Lappeenranta campus is a compact campus in the Skinnarila district on the shore of Lake Saimaa, the fourth-largest lake in Europe, and houses most of LUT's students; the Lahti campus is smaller. Student life revolves around the student union, the campus restaurants with subsidised student lunches, and hands-on spaces such as the Jamie Hyneman Center prototyping lab. With students from 103 nationalities and all bachelor's teaching in English, international students are part of the mainstream rather than a separate track, and the lakes and forests around campus are a big part of everyday life.
