About ITB
Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) opened on 3 July 1920 as the Technische Hoogeschool te Bandoeng, a Dutch colonial technical college, and took its present name in 1959. Its early graduates included Sukarno, Indonesia's first president, and it remains one of the country's best-known engineering and science universities: a public research institution centred on its historic Ganesha campus in Bandung, with further campuses elsewhere.
ITB is organised into faculties and schools, including Earth Sciences and Technology, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Art and Design, Industrial Technology, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mining and Petroleum Engineering, the School of Architecture, Planning and Policy Development, the School of Business and Management, the School of Pharmacy, the School of Life Sciences and Technology, and the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics.
For international students, the main route is the International Undergraduate Program (IUP): 27 study programmes taught entirely in English, from Aerospace and Chemical Engineering to Informatics (AI concentration), Architecture, Visual Communication Design and International Business. Every IUP student must spend at least one semester on outbound exchange at a partner university abroad. Selection uses ITB's own Academic Qualification test or SAT, ACT or A-level scores, plus English. It suits strong science and design students who want a rigorous, well-connected Indonesian degree with built-in time abroad.

ITB does not publish an IUP acceptance rate. Applicants are selected on report cards from semesters 1 to 5, the ITB Academic Qualification (AQ) test or accepted external scores, and English.

Open to foreign nationals and Indonesian applicants from national and non-national curriculum schools.
ITB runs IUP selection in three batches; for 2026/27 registration opened around the turn of the year and Batch 1 results were announced on 2 April 2026. Exact 2027/28 batch deadlines have not yet been published. Foreign students should allow about two months for Indonesian student immigration.
How to apply
Register on admission.itb.ac.id with your name and date of birth as on your passport, receive a selection number, then upload report cards, passport, photo, test scores (or book the ITB AQ and ELQ tests) and a signed statement that you will fully fund your studies, including the outbound exchange. Pay the registration fee (IDR 4,000,000 for Indonesians, about USD 255 for foreign nationals) and download your applicant card. Successful applicants activate online registration, pay fees and must hold full-coverage health insurance valid in Indonesia.

Tips for applying to ITB
- 1 Apply in Batch 1 if you are a foreign national: it is reserved for foreigners and Indonesians studying abroad.
- 2 Submitting SAT (900+), ACT (16+) or A-level Maths and Physics at grade B or above lets you skip ITB's own AQ test.
- 3 Architecture and Art and Design applicants must also sit a drawing test.
- 4 Budget for the semester abroad on top of tuition: IUP students pay for the outbound exchange themselves and cannot switch to the cheaper regular programme.

Student life
The Ganesha campus in north Bandung mixes 1920s buildings, such as the West and East Halls with their tall, upswept roofs, with shaded boulevards and newer faculty buildings. ITB's student organisations and clubs are central to campus life; its film club LFM, for example, recently won an award at an international youth film festival. IUP students also spend at least one semester abroad at a partner university, and must hold full health insurance valid in Indonesia.

Location
Bandung, the capital of West Java, sits on a highland plateau ringed by volcanic mountains, which keeps it cooler than Jakarta. It is a large university city, and the Ganesha campus lies in the north of the city on Jalan Ganesha. Jakarta, the capital, is a few hours away by road.
