About Hacettepe
Hacettepe University traces its roots to the Chair of Child Health founded by Prof. İhsan Doğramacı in 1954 and the Hacettepe Institute of Child Health and Children's Hospital that followed. Schools of health sciences, medicine and dentistry grew around it, and Hacettepe was founded as a university on 8 July 1967 by Law No. 892, starting with faculties of medicine, health sciences, science and social sciences.
Today the university has 17 faculties, 15 institutes, 4 vocational schools, 2 colleges, the Ankara State Conservatory and 98 research and application centres. It works from two main campuses: the Sıhhiye campus in central Ankara, home to the medical centre and health faculties, and the Beytepe campus about 13 km from the centre, a 600-hectare green campus housing engineering, science, law, economics, education, fine arts and letters.
Hacettepe is best known for medicine and the health sciences, and has long been among Türkiye's leading research universities. It suits students who want a large public university with a strong hospital system, a wide choice of subjects and a green, self-contained main campus in the capital.

Hacettepe's Faculty of Medicine, founded in 1963, is linked to a large university hospital system that grew from the Hacettepe Children's Hospital.

Selectivity
Hacettepe publishes no acceptance rate. Turkish applicants are placed through the national central placement exam (YKS, run by ÖSYM). International applicants are ranked by a selection commission on their exam or diploma scores (TR-YÖS, SAT, GCE A Level and other accepted qualifications) within fixed quotas, and some programmes have held online interviews for shortlisted candidates.

These are the 2026-27 international dates and have passed. The 2027-28 schedule is not yet published; on the 2026 pattern, TR-YÖS/SAT applications would open in late May 2027 and A Level applications in August.
How to apply
International students apply online, in person rather than through agents (Hacettepe has no recruitment partners), via the International Student Office's application portal (internationalstudents.hacettepe.edu.tr), uploading test or diploma scores. After results, placed students register in person with original documents during the registration week and then apply for a student residence permit through the office.
What admissions looks for
- High scores on an accepted test or diploma, ranked within the quota for each programme.
- Proof of every score and detail declared in the application; candidates who cannot prove them lose their place.
- For some programmes, performance in a Zoom interview: evaluation commissions have shortlisted up to three times each programme's quota for interview.
Tips for applying to Hacettepe
- 1 Apply yourself: Hacettepe says it has no agents or partner institutions for international admissions.
- 2 If you sit TR-YÖS, take it with ÖSYM: the university recognises the ÖSYM-administered exam.
- 3 Check each department's language requirement before choosing it; many programmes are taught in Turkish or begin with a preparatory year.
- 4 Plan to be in Ankara for registration week, and start your residence permit paperwork (e-ikamet) straight after registering.

International tuition is fixed in US dollars each academic year and converted to Turkish lira at the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye rate on the first Monday of August. The international pages do not describe a Hacettepe tuition-waiver scheme; the admission rules refer to students funded through Türkiye Scholarships (Türkiye Bursları) and other international scholarship programmes.

Medicine
Founded in 1963 as the second medical faculty in Ankara and the fourth in Türkiye; international tuition USD 12,000 a year (2025-26).
Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation
İhsan Doğramacı founded the department in 1961; it became a Hacettepe school in 1967 and its own faculty in 2019.
Nutrition and Dietetics
Taught at Hacettepe since 1962, when it began under the School of Home Economics of the School of Child Health.
Dentistry
Established as a school in 1963 within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; a separate faculty since 1971.
Engineering
Based on the Beytepe campus; departments date from chemical engineering (1967) and physics, mining and geological engineering (1968), with computer engineering from 1971.
Ankara State Conservatory
Part of Hacettepe since 1982 and housed on the Beşevler campus, training musicians and actors; alumni include actors Erdal Beşikçioğlu and Burcu Özberk.

Student life
Most students are based on the Beytepe campus on Ankara's western side, a wooded, self-contained campus with dormitories, a shopping mall, the Beytepe Olympic Swimming Pool, a stadium and sports hall, an amphitheatre, the Beytepe Library and a large planted forest used for running, trekking and mountain biking. Health students study on the Sıhhiye campus in the city centre next to the hospitals, and the Ankara State Conservatory is on the Beşevler campus.
