About GCUF

Government College University, Faisalabad (GCUF) began as a school in 1897, became an intermediate college in 1924, started degree teaching in 1933 and postgraduate teaching in 1963, and was granted university status in October 2002. Its main campus is a 37-acre site on Jhang Road near Faisalabad's Clock Tower, a new 200-acre campus is being built a few kilometres away, and there are sub-campuses in Chiniot, Samundri and Hafizabad.

The university has 8 faculties with more than 60 departments: Arts and Social Sciences, Economics and Management Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Islamic and Oriental Learning, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Sciences and Medical Sciences. The Fall 2026-27 admission list runs from chemistry, zoology and computer science to Pharm-D, Doctor of Physical Therapy, engineering technology, fashion design and Punjabi.

Admission to BS programmes is almost entirely by academic merit: 10% matriculation marks and 90% intermediate (or A-level) marks, with no general entry test for most programmes. Semester fees are published in full in the prospectus. GCUF suits students from Punjab who want a broad public university with strong sciences and a large residential system for women.
