Student life combines an urban campus with organized residential and extracurricular options. Location & Surroundings

The main campus is located at 66 George Street in the heart of Charleston’s Historic District. Rather than occupying an isolated campus, College of Charleston buildings, residence halls and facilities are woven into the surrounding downtown street network. Students therefore have direct proximity to the city’s cultural life, historic sites, community organizations and businesses. The coastal metropolitan setting also supports connections to regional industries and potential internship or service opportunities. This location brings practical tradeoffs. Downtown parking is limited, and the university directs visitors toward public garages and metered spaces. Students and employees can ride Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority buses, including the Downtown Area Shuttle, without charge by showing a valid Cougar Card. Prospective students should still evaluate travel time, housing location and transportation needs for placements beyond downtown. A campus visit can be especially useful because the boundary between campus and city is less distinct than at many universities.
