About Bauman University (BMSTU)
Bauman Moscow State Technical University, known in Russia as Baumanka, traces its history to the Moscow Craft School approved in 1830. In the late 19th century, as the Imperial Moscow Technical School, it developed the "Russian method" of engineering education, combining intensive theory with practical workshop training. Several major Moscow institutes, including the Moscow Aviation Institute and the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, grew out of its faculties.
Today it is a national research university focused on engineering and applied science: aerospace and rocketry, robotics, computing, information security, energy machinery, materials and biomedical engineering. Its research runs through more than 50 research and education centres, many set up with industrial partners such as Roscosmos, Sber, T-Bank, KAMAZ and 1C, and a new campus of 12 buildings added 170,000 square metres of space. Its graduates include Sergei Korolev, founder of practical cosmonautics, and aircraft designers Andrei Tupolev and Pavel Sukhoi.
From 2026 Bauman is part of a national pilot of a new higher-education system, with programmes of 4 to 6 years built on a shared two-year fundamental core. Teaching is in Russian, so international students take entrance exams in Russian language and core subjects, or first join a Russian-language preparatory course. It suits students who are strong in mathematics and physics and want a demanding, practice-heavy engineering degree.

These are the 2026 admission calendar dates for foreign applicants to bachelor's and specialist programmes; they have passed. Bauman publishes the 2027 calendar before the summer 2027 campaign, which is expected to follow a similar June-August pattern. Government quota applicants apply through Russia's official selection system rather than directly to Bauman.
How to apply
Submit documents online through the applicant's personal account (or in person, by post or via Gosuslugi), then sit the internal entrance exams in one of the summer streams. Fee-paying applicants sign a contract after results; government-funded (budget) applicants submit a consent to enrol. International students study either on a fee-paying contract or on a referral from Russia's Ministry of Science and Higher Education (the Russian government quota).
What admissions looks for
- High scores in the entrance exams for your programme, especially Mathematics and Physics or Informatics.
- Russian language ability sufficient to pass the Russian language exam and study technical subjects in Russian.
- Scores above each subject's minimum (for example 46 points in Mathematics, Physics and Russian for many pilot-project programmes).

Student life
Student life at Bauman is built around making things. Student design bureaus include the Zhukovsky Student Scientific and Technical Society, the Youth Engineering Centre (a free prototyping space), the Youth Space Centre, Bauman Racing Team, the Youth Robotics Centre and the Hydronautics centre for underwater robots. The new campus added 12 buildings, including Quantum Park, a Robotics Centre, a sports complex and new residences, and a pedestrian bridge across the Yauza river. Industry partners such as VK and T-Bank run free courses and hackathons on campus.

Location
The main campus is in the Basmanny and Lefortovo area of central-eastern Moscow, on 2nd Baumanskaya Street beside the Yauza river and near Lefortovo Park. Moscow is Russia's capital and largest city, with an extensive metro system. Winters are long and cold.
