Assiut University was established in October 1957 and describes itself as the first university in Upper Egypt. It opened with Science and Engineering, added Agriculture in 1959/60 and Medicine in 1960/61, and now lists faculties from Law, Commerce and Arts to Nursing, Dentistry, Computers and Information, Veterinary Medicine and Fine Arts, plus the South Egypt Cancer Institute.
The Faculty of Medicine, founded in 1960, is described by the university as the oldest medical school in Upper Egypt and the region's largest academic health complex, combining teaching, research and patient care. Times Higher Education's 2026 profile lists roughly 86,700 students, 5% of them international, and a student-to-staff ratio of 13.2.
For foreign applicants the process is unusually well documented. The university's rules page still shows 2023 dates (re-coordination on 15 September 2023 and original documents by 30 September 2023), last updated on 7 May 2024. No 2027 dates were published; check the Study in Egypt platform.
How to apply
Apply on the Study in Egypt admission platform (admission.study-in-egypt.gov.eg): upload the required documents, choose up to 10 faculty preferences, and pay the service fees (coordination, qualification modernisation, club subscription and university registration) within the period after preliminary nomination that the rules page sets (14 days in its 2023 text). After the preliminary nomination, submit original documents to the university, or through a representative such as a guardian or embassy, by the stated deadline. Inaccurate documents cancel the nomination without a refund.

- Non-Egyptian nationality and completed secondary education or its equivalent.
- A name written exactly as on the passport or refugee card.
- Complete and accurate documents: incorrect information cancels the nomination and paid fees are not refunded.

Assiut's fees page describes a payment system for international students in two instalments, one at the start of the semester and one at the end of the winter break. We found no scholarship scheme for foreign undergraduates on the pages we loaded. Pharmacy
Founded in 1960 as the third pharmacy school in Egypt, and has graduated more than 12,000 bachelor's students according to its fact sheet.
Dentistry
Approved by the Supreme Council of Universities in 2012 and opened with an international character, enrolling about 50 Malaysian students at the start.
Engineering
One of the two original faculties, started in 1957/58.
