About AU
Asia University was founded in 2001 in Wufeng, on the southern edge of Taichung, as Taichung Healthcare and Management University, and took its current name in 2005. It was founded by Chang-Hai Tsai, chairman of China Medical University and its healthcare system, and health remains central: the university runs its own hospital and a veterinary teaching hospital.
Teaching is organised in colleges of Medical and Health Science, Nursing, Information and Electrical Engineering, Management and Social Sciences, and Creative Design. Degrees range from optometry, physical and occupational therapy, audiology and psychology to artificial intelligence, computer science, finance, law and interior and fashion design. The campus is laid out as a 'garden university' with Greek and Romanesque-style buildings, and its best-known landmark is the Asia University Museum of Modern Art, Tadao Ando's first building in Taiwan, which opened in 2013.
For international students the entry bar is moderate: most bachelor's programmes are taught in Chinese and need TOCFL A2 or HSK 4, while English-taught options such as Computer Science and Information Engineering need CEFR B1 English. There is no application fee, and applications are reviewed in monthly batches. It suits students who want an applied, career-focused degree in health, IT or design at Taiwanese public-university prices.

How to apply
Apply online at admission.asia.edu.tw with no application fee. Upload PDFs of your passport, authenticated high school diploma and transcripts, an autobiography, proof of funds (US$5,000) and language certificates. You can apply to up to three departments but enrol in only one; tick the scholarship option on the form if you want to be considered.
What admissions looks for
- Preparation for the chosen subject, which carries about half the weight for most bachelor's programmes.
- Language proficiency in the teaching language: TOCFL A2 or HSK 4 for Chinese-taught degrees, CEFR B1 English for English-taught ones.
- High school grades, shown on authenticated yearly transcripts.
- Fit with the university's key development areas, which counts for about 10% of the score.
Tips for applying to AU
- 1 Get your diploma and transcripts authenticated by a Taiwan overseas representative office early; if you cannot finish in time, you must submit a signed affidavit and bring authenticated originals to registration.
- 2 Use all three department choices: there is no fee, but you can only enrol in one.
- 3 Tick the scholarship box on the application form, since Asia University scholarships are awarded during admission and holders of a full Taiwanese government scholarship are not eligible.
- 4 For Spring 2027, apply before the October or November result dates rather than the final November 29 deadline, because results are released in monthly batches.

Asia University's admission scholarships for international students include a Type C award that waives 50% of bachelor's tuition (miscellaneous fees still payable), and it is withdrawn if the previous year's average falls below 75. The university's sources disagree on duration: the 2026-27 admission brochure says bachelor's awards last at most one year, while the Office of International Affairs scholarship page says up to four years, so confirm with the OIA. The Taiwan Scholarship from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs is applied for through Taiwan's overseas offices; students holding a Taiwan Scholarship or another full ROC government scholarship cannot also hold an Asia University scholarship.

Computer Science and Information Engineering
Offered from bachelor's to PhD level, with an English-taught track that needs only CEFR B1 English.
Artificial Intelligence
A dedicated bachelor's and master's department, backed by a PhD programme in AI and the new AI and Quantum Research Center.
Optometry

Student life
Most students live on or near the Wufeng campus. Asia University has four dormitories (Gratitude, Beatitude, Summit and Dreamweaver halls) with more than 4,000 beds, mostly in four-person rooms, each with lounges, study spaces and a fitness area. Campus life includes service, music, art, sports and fellowship clubs, an annual AU Arts Festival and the Three-Virtue Academy character programme. Art is everywhere: Tadao Ando's museum sits on campus, and sculptures are placed across the grounds.

Location
Asia University is in Wufeng District on the southern outskirts of Taichung, Taiwan's second-largest city, in a quieter area at the foot of the hills. Wufeng was once the meeting place of the Taiwan Provincial Council. Living costs are modest by Taiwanese standards: the university estimates basic monthly spending at NT$7,000 to NT$9,000 beyond housing, and central Taichung is a bus ride away.
