About ASU

Applied Science Private University (ASU) was approved in 1989 as one of Jordan's first private universities and took its first students in October 1991, with three faculties and 14 specialisations. It is run by the Arab International Company for Education and Investment and now has twelve faculties offering 59 specialisations at bachelor's, master's and higher diploma level, from dentistry and pharmacy to law, design, engineering and information technology.

The university leans on external accreditation: its own summary lists ACPE accreditation for Pharmacy (the first in Jordan), ACEN for Nursing, HCÉRES for Law (also a Jordanian first), AACSB acceptance for Business and AFN accreditation for Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, and its admissions portal highlights ABET accreditation for its engineering programmes. It has 349 faculty members and students from more than 50 nationalities.

Admission is by secondary-school average rather than essays or tests, with a published minimum for each faculty. Fees are charged per credit hour and vary widely by programme, and Jordanian students get automatic grade-based discounts of up to 70% on some majors. ASU suits students who want a career-focused degree in Amman, especially in health sciences, engineering, IT or business, and who are comfortable on a large, commuter-heavy suburban campus.

Why students choose ASU

01

Its Pharmacy faculty was the first in Jordan to earn ACPE accreditation, and its Law faculty the first in Jordan to be accredited by France's HCÉRES.

02

Admission is transparent: each faculty publishes a minimum secondary-school average, from 60% for Business and Arts to 80% for Pharmacy and most Engineering majors.

03

Jordanian students get automatic tuition discounts by grade band, for example 40% off the Computer Science credit-hour price with a 95% average.

04

The campus houses a 537-square-metre cadaveric microanatomy lab approved by the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies as a world training centre.

Admissions

2026-27 published requirements (apply to 2027 entry until updated)

Selectivity

ASU does not publish an acceptance rate. Admission is based on the secondary-school (Tawjihi or equivalent) average against a published minimum for each faculty, from 60% (Business, Arts and Design, Arts and Humanities) to 80% (Pharmacy and most Engineering majors), and 90% for Dentistry (80% for non-Jordanian applicants).

Testing No admissions test for bachelor's programmes; admission is by secondary-school average.

Typical entry requirements

Jordanian Tawjihi or equivalent secondary certificateMinimum average by faculty: 60% Business, Arts and Design, Arts and Humanities; 65% Law; 70% Nursing, Allied Medical Sciences, Renewable Energy Technology and Hybrid and Electric Vehicles; 75% Information Technology and Sharia; 80% Pharmacy and other Engineering majors
Dentistry (Doctor of Dental Science)Minimum 90% secondary average for Jordanian students, 80% for non-Jordanian students
Intermediate diploma holders (bridging)Minimum 68% diploma average (70% for Engineering and Pharmacy)
Non-Jordanian applicantsASU's non-Jordanian price list gives separate minimum bachelor's averages by major, e.g. 50% for Mathematics and English, 55% for Nursing and Allied Medical Sciences, 60% for IT and Sharia majors, 65% for most Engineering majors and Pharmacy, 80% for Dentistry

Deadlines

ASU does not publish fixed application deadlines. The year runs as a first semester, a second semester and a summer semester; check the 2026-2027 university calendar on the admission pages for current registration dates.

How to apply

Apply online through ASU's admission portal (admission.asu.edu.jo), then submit the ministry-certified original secondary-school transcript, a copy of your passport or birth certificate and a photo. Some nationalities also need a no-objection letter from their country's cultural attaché in Jordan. A one-off enrolment fee of 150 JOD is charged (90 JOD of it is credited to the first semester's fees if you are accepted).

What admissions looks for

  • A secondary-school average at or above the published minimum for your faculty.
  • For Dentistry, a very high average: 90% for Jordanian and 80% for non-Jordanian applicants.
  • Complete, ministry-certified documents, including a cultural-attaché no-objection letter where your nationality requires one.
  • For transfer students, credits from a recognised institution, with at least 50% of the ASU study plan still to be taken at ASU.

Tips for applying to ASU

  1. 1 Check your faculty's minimum average first: it ranges from 60% to 90% depending on the major.
  2. 2 Jordanian applicants should read the Grants and Discounts page (a higher average cuts the credit-hour price by 10% to 70% depending on the major); non-Jordanian applicants have a separate price and discount list.
  3. 3 Budget for semester registration and service fees (520 JOD per regular semester) on top of credit-hour tuition.
  4. 4 Non-Jordanian applicants should ask their country's cultural attaché in Jordan early about the no-objection letter ASU may require.
