About TUL

Lodz University of Technology (Politechnika Łódzka, TUL) was created in 1945 and grew from the needs of Łódź's industrial, textile-driven economy. It now has nine faculties: Mechanical Engineering; Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering; Chemistry; Textiles and Design; Biotechnology and Food Sciences; Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering; Technical Physics, Information Technology and Applied Mathematics; Organization and Management; and Process and Environmental Engineering.

The university reports 10,855 students, 1,226 academic staff and 70 fields of study, and says its campus covers 37 hectares in the centre of Łódź, mixing modern pavilions with restored industrial buildings and former industrialists' villas. International students can choose from programmes in English: more than 25 of its 65 study programmes are taught in English, and the International Faculty of Engineering has offered programmes in English and French for more than 25 years.

TUL suits applicants who want an engineering, IT, chemistry, textiles or design degree at tuition far below UK or US levels, and who are comfortable with a structured admission route: many non-EU applicants sit online entrance exams in mathematics, physics or English rather than applying on predicted grades alone.

Why students choose TUL

01

More than 25 programmes are taught in English, including Computer Science, Industrial Biotechnology, Business, Society and Technology and Master in Mechanical Engineering.

02

The International Faculty of Engineering offers English and French programmes and double diplomas with foreign partner universities; TUL lists more than 650 partner universities.

03

Every year TUL offers 20 tuition-free places through a contest for the best candidates, two per faculty.

04

It has nine dormitories with 2,521 beds close to the city centre, and foreign students can apply for a place after admission.

Admissions

Academic year 2026/27 is the latest published cycle; 2027/28 schedules not yet published

Selectivity

TUL does not publish an acceptance rate. Candidates are ranked by points from secondary school results (or entrance exams for some foreign systems), and places are limited per programme.

Testing Applicants with certificates from outside the EU, EFTA, OECD, China and Ukraine systems take online entrance exams in mathematics, physics and/or English. Applicants to English-taught first-cycle programmes must take the English exam at extended level with at least 60 percent (except where exempt). Architecture, Design and Advanced Design and Technology also require an artistic aptitude test.

Typical entry requirements

Secondary school certificate (foreign)Certificate giving access to university in the issuing country, apostilled or legalised where required, with subject marks used for qualification; see the programme's qualifying subjects (typically mathematics, a foreign language and physics, informatics or chemistry)
IB, European Baccalaureate, Polish MaturaAccepted with published conversion rules; Polish Matura holders need no extra Polish-language proof
English languageIELTS 6 · TOEFL iBT 72 Minimum B2 for English-taught programmes; accepted certificates include IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 72, Cambridge B2 First or higher, PTE Academic 59. Polish-taught programmes need Polish at B2.

Deadlines

  1. Bachelor's, round 1 (registration) - 2026/27 cycle Non-binding Passed
    9 June - 10 July 2026 (Architecture and Design fields: 9 - 22 June 2026)

Opened September 2026 for candidates already in Poland or holding a valid visa

Previous cycle; detailed dates are on the admissions agenda page.

These are the 2026/27 dates, labelled as the previous cycle. TUL had not published 2027/28 dates on the pages fetched; check the admissions schedule at apply.p.lodz.pl.

How to apply

Register in TUL's Candidate Portal at apply.p.lodz.pl, choose programmes, pay the admission fee (85 PLN, or 150 PLN for Architecture, Design and Advanced Design and Technology), enter secondary school results and upload scanned documents, sit any required online exams, then confirm enrolment and send original documents after admission.

What admissions looks for

  • Strong results in the qualifying subjects of the chosen programme, usually mathematics and a foreign language plus physics, informatics or chemistry.
  • Proof of English at B2 for English-taught programmes, or Polish at B2 for Polish-taught ones.
  • For Architecture and Design fields, a pass in the artistic aptitude test.

Tips for applying to TUL

  1. 1 Check the qualifying subjects for your programme first; missing a subject can be covered by taking TUL's online exam.
  2. 2 If you hold an EU, EFTA, OECD, Chinese or Ukrainian certificate you may skip the entrance exams, but English-taught programmes may still require the English exam at 60 percent.
  3. 3 Look at the tuition-free contest: 20 places a year, two per faculty.
  4. 4 Apostille or legalisation requirements depend on your country, so check the documents page before scanning.

Polish citizens and persons listed in Article 324(2) of the Law on Higher Education and Science: full-time studies are free; the 2 June 2026 announcement lists tuition only for part-time studies (for example Computer Science part-time 5,851 PLN per semester) Tuition PLN 0
Non-Polish citizens not covered by Article 324(2), first-cycle full-time, 2026/27, per year = 2 semesters x the published per-semester fee. Per-semester fees on the candidate page (https://apply.p.lodz.pl/en/enrollment/enroll/fees-and-scholarships): from 2,800 PLN (Paper and Printing Technology, Polish-taught) and 3,000 PLN (Management) to 9,000 PLN (all International Faculty of Engineering programmes in English), i.e. 5,600 to 18,000 PLN a year. The 2 June 2026 announcement (.doc) lists the same 9,000 top rate but shows slightly different low-end values for Paper and Printing Technology (3,200) and 3,000 for Management, so the lowest figure is 2,800 to 3,000 per semester depending on the source. Examples per semester: Automatic Control and Robotics 5,000; Computer Science (Electrical faculty, Polish) 5,900; Architecture in English 8,000; Textile and Fashion Industry in English 8,000. Master's full-time fees in the announcement run from 3,000 to 9,000 per semester Tuition PLN 5,600 – PLN 18,000
